Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Research Operations, the Administrative Coordinator for Student Research Programs provides administrative and programmatic support for student-focused research programming within the Division of Research and Innovation. This position will work closely with the Director of Undergraduate Research and will serve as a liaison between the Director of Undergraduate Research and other senior University officials, deans, faculty, staff, and students.
The responsibilities include but are not limited to the researching, planning, coordination, implementation, and maintenance of student-focused research programming. The two main programs are the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) and the Student Research Symposium (SRS). The Administrative Coordinator coordinates and/or performs highly sensitive and confidential administrative project management on behalf of the Associate Vice President and Director of Undergraduate Research for assisting with the goal of increasing undergraduate student involvement with research, scholarship, and creative activities. With a high degree of autonomy, the Administrative Coordinator coordinates meetings, projects, activities, makes inquiries and replies for and on behalf of the Associate Vice President and Director of Undergraduate Research. The position requires the highest level of written and verbal communication skill, professionalism and tact, as well as a working knowledge of the University, CSU, and State of California infrastructure, policies and procedures.

This is a full time (1.0 time-base) benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires a fully functional knowledge of and skill in standard office procedures and practices, as well as an ability to understand and operate in a variety of organizational structures. Additionally, incumbents are expected to have a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation and be able to clearly communicate orally and in writing. Some positions may require a knowledge of business mathematics beyond basic arithmetic. The ability to use and quickly learn new office support technology systems and software packages is also a prerequisite.
These qualifications would normally be obtained through a high school program, technical/vocational program, or their equivalents combined with several years of related office work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university
Three years progressively responsible experience in a position requiring a high degree of judgement, discretion, and initiative to coordinate activities associated with an executive or senior management office
Experience using the InfoReady platform for grant and funding applications
Experience working in a large public sector, non-profit, or educational institution
Demonstrated experience with and/or commitment to working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups

Specialized Skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including strong public speaking, listening and interpretive skills
Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to write complex and detailed reports and proposals.
Ability to plan ahead, build and retain a knowledge base of current and historical data, retrieve and organize relevant, complex material
Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom or other web conferencing, Google Suite.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $3,500 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,352 - $5,639 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
