Position Summary
The clerical staff consists of one Administrative Support Coordinator II and two full-time Administrative Support Assistants II, as well as work study and student assistant positions. The Department of English and Comparative Literature conducts a full range of normal departmental activities. The Administrative Support Assistant II position reports to the department chair.
The essential duties of this position are to provide clerical and administrative support for the department chair, the undergraduate advisor, the graduate program administrative support assistant, and the administrative support coordinator. Typical activities include preparing documents of various kinds using Word and Excel, taking minutes, scheduling appointments, planning events, and assisting with the department’s newsletter and social media presence. The ASA II's work is supervised by the department chair and receives training and lead direction from the Administrative Support Coordinator II.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience
Entry to this classification requires fundamental written and oral communication skills, including a sound foundation in English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; an ability to understand standard office procedures; an ability to operate standard office equipment; an ability to learn office technology systems; an ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations; and typing and keyboard skills.
These entry qualifications would normally be obtained through completion of a high school program or its equivalent and some experience in an office environment.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in an academic setting.
Experience in the professional use of digital and social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and blogs.
Customer service experience in an office setting.
Experience greeting and communicating instructions and information to customers.
Experience coordinating administrative support functions for a group.
Experience with data entry and updating database records.
Experience processing travel documents.

Specialized Skills
Thorough knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation usage and clear diction.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $2,912 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,912 - $4,592 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
