THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY at SAN DIEGO STATE UNIVERSITY seeks to recruit for a tenured/tenure-track faculty position in Organic Chemistry at the Assistant or Associate professor level with the appointment to begin in Fall 2025.
We seek candidates with research and teaching specialties that compliment those existing within the department, with a preferred emphasis on catalysis, new reaction development, and/or synthetic methodology. Located in San Diego with established and growing ties to local biotech and pharma, SDSU welcomes candidates that can foster research collaborations and prepare students for careers in these industries. SDSU has a diverse student body and is a designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI). The Chemistry and Biochemistry department is highly research active and is an integral part of the university's strategic plan to become an R1, premier public research university in the near future.
The minimum salary for this position is based on the current CSU salary schedule for Assistant Professors / Associate Professors / Professors and may be revised based on contract collective bargaining. The anticipated salary range is from $94k – 97k at the assistant professor level and from $114k – 120k at the associate professor level. Salary placement will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience, and salaries higher than the published maximums may be offered in limited circumstances. Qualifications

The successful candidate is expected to develop an innovative, extramurally funded, independent research program, to mentor undergraduate and graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) students in research, and to be prepared to teach courses in upper division and graduate-level organic chemistry. A Ph.D. degree in chemistry or a related field is required and postdoctoral experience is strongly preferred. For appointment at the Associate Professor level, the candidate must have experience with leading an established, extramurally funded, independent research group.
