COMMUNICATIONS AND DEVELOPMENT OFFICER Planting Seeds is a team of Guatemalans, Canadians, and U.S. Americans working together to improve the landscape of education and community development across Guatemala. Planting Seeds works to provide high-quality comprehensive education, teacher training, and community and family development programs for low-income families across Guatemala.
The Philosophy of all of our programs centers around love: for one’s self and for others, our families, our communities, and our world. We implement our accredited teaching methodology in 5 pre-schools and have trained more than 100 teachers.
We accompany our preschools with necessary family strengthening programs and collaborative strategies to best meet the needs of the communities we work in. We are currently raising funds to develop a community center in Zone 3 of Guatemala City.
The Position
Reporting to the PSI Executive Director, the Communications and Development Officer(CDO) is responsible for executing Planting Seeds’ fundraising and communication strategies, strengthening our individual donor base in the United States, Canada and Guatemala, researching and applying for grants, and supporting public relations. The core responsibility of the Communications and Development Officer will be to expand the donor base and strengthen supporters’ relationships with Planting Seeds. The CDO will be in frequent communication with donors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and strengthen supporters’ relationships with Planting Seeds, involving them more in the organization.
- Evaluate and improve the fundraising and communication strategy in Guatemala, Canada, and the United States.
- Serve on the Development Committee to develop and implement strategies for raising funds, engaging potential donors, and submitting grant proposals.
- Manage Planting Seeds’ Sponsorship, Dual-Exchange Programs, and other development activities.
- Assist with the public relations of the organization.
- Write compelling grant applications, follow-up, and submit progress reports.
- Utilize our Salesforce and Excel Databases to accurately use and process information on supporters.
- Maintain communication and a close working relationship with the Executive Director, the Board of Directors and key allies.
REQUIREMENTS
- Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Communication, Marketing, Social Sciences or related.
- 2 years of professional experience in nonprofit organizations and/or fundraising.
- Experience in project management.
- Knowledge of Canva, Salesforce, Mail Chimp, Microsoft Office
ABILITIES
- Excellent verbal and written conceptualization, articulation and persuasion skills.
- Advanced linguistic fluency in both English and Spanish.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain relationships with donors.
- Integrity, ethics, and ability to inspire confidence.
