The Global Public Service Academies GPSA were founded with an understanding that students from high school through college can make a difference in the world. All of our academies are experiences in the developing world formed around an educational collaboration with faculty from Duke University and Harvard University. We know that working with US faculty in an international setting allows students to learn and contribute in ways that a domestic summer camp or volunteer experience can't.
GPSA currently runs trips year:round in Guatemala and Belize. GSPA is experiencing rapid growth and expects approximately 120 students to participate in GPSA programs in 2016.
GPSA is now looking for an independent contractor to serve as Assistant Country Manager, based in Guatemala. As Assistant Country Manager, you would have multiple responsibilities including: 1 communication before student arrival to coordinate on:site projects, admissions, participant preferences and faculty requirements 2 communication during student activities to coordinate day:to:day activities including transportation, homestay coordination language school coordination and coordination with country manager, trip director and Medical Fellows or Associates 3 communication after student departure to collect feedback and develop improvement plans and 4 coordination of financial activities including budgeting before trips, during trips and coordination of payments. The primary coordination activities are, therefore, payments for housing, transportation to and from the airport, weekend activities and to/from the clinics, schools and other locations and language classes. The primary admissions responsibilities are handling of applications for participation from students, leaders, leaders:in:training and chaperones including collecting applications, checking for application forms and their completeness, answering questions, submitting applications to admissions committees, and participating, as needed in the admissions committee.
The Assistant Country Manager is expected to occasionally help with documents such as the newsletter, twitter and Facebook but this is not the primary responsibility. The Assistant Country Manager may on some occasions be expected act as a short:term Trip Director should the trip director be ill or unavailable. Typical short term Trip Director responsibilities include 1 managing Medical Fellows or Associates 2 handling discipline and conflict problems as they arise and 3 chaperone to non:clinical activities.
The Assistant Country Manager may be required to occasionally visit Belize and the USA for business meetings or operations. An ability to obtain or possess the required travel visas is required.
The Assistant Country Manager must be able to work comfortably in English and Spanish. Ability to speak Mandarin or Portuguese considered favorably. The Assistant Country Manager should be currently living in or near Antigua, Xela or Huehuetenango, Guatemala. The Assistant Country Manager must be able to demonstrate an ability to receive payments in US and account for those payments. An Assistant Country Manager with a medical professional background is preferred but not required. A demonstrated interest in tourism and high school students is preferred but not required. The position demands attention to detail. The management of spreadsheets and electronic files requires a high level of computer literacy including experience with Outlook, Microsoft Word and Excel.
The Assistant Country Manager is a contract employee engaged for one year at a time, renewable. The Country Manager will not be provided with benefits or an office. However, an annual budget will be provided for office utilities telephone, computer, printer and toner. Each one:year contract is expected to be valued at US4000 : US5000 depending on the experience and qualifications of the applicant.
