Position Summary
A primary goal of the Office of Educational Opportunity Programs and Ethnic Affairs (EOP) is to improve access for students from disadvantaged backgrounds by making higher education a possibility for prospective students with the potential for academic success. EOP assists students from disadvantaged circumstances in overcoming historically, traditional, social, economic, psychological, and educational barriers throughout their collegiate experience and in achieving academic success by providing a comprehensive program of support services.
Under the general direction of the Director and Associate Director of Educational Opportunity Programs / Ethnic Affairs, the EOP Learning Support Center Coordinator will be responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of programs and services offered by the EOP Learning Support Center. The Coordinator is responsible for working with the Director and Associate Director in identifying, collaborating, and maintaining relationships and partnerships within SDSU and the community to create and develop programs and services that support the retention and academic success of EOP students.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits-eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper-division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
A master’s degree in Education, Educational Psychology, or other master’s degree with emphasis in learning theory and/or academic field or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate and the appropriate internship or training in a tutoring/learning organization may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Education, College Student Development, or a support field related to tutoring/learning support
Three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience
Three years of professional experience providing academic support services in higher education
Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of specific learning theory, learning styles, affective issues, academic issues, and socio-cultural / linguistic issues in applying academic support to students
Demonstrated success in increasing student retention and progression
Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of student development, student academic support, and related knowledge to maximizing student success

Specialized Skills
Experience working and interacting effectively with diverse groups of staff, faculty, and student populations
Experience working with students from low-income, first-generation, traditionally underserved, and traditionally disadvantaged backgrounds (e.g. former foster youth, undocumented students, etc.)
Knowledge of multicultural competencies
Knowledge of strategies in critical thinking, reading, writing, note-taking, test-taking, time management, and goal setting
Knowledge of program development, data gathering, assessment, and evaluation skills. Problem-solving and organizational skills
Knowledge of current research and theoretical models that influence the application and delivery of academic services (e.g., discipline-specific, student population specific).
Ability to work independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction, and in performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature
Ability to work effectively in a strong service environment that is subject to constantly changing priorities
Excellent writing and communication skills; ability to build strong collaborative relationships within the unit and other areas of the university and community.
Significant experience with educational technologies and learning software, databases, online assessment.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,691 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,691 - $6,683 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
