Position Summary
The Department of Facilities Services is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, renovation, remodel and alteration activities in support of the academic and research mission of the university. Facilities Services employs over 200 employees (full-time and students) and supports approximately eight million square feet of buildings (including residence halls and parking structures) and 280 acres of improved and unimproved land with an operating budget of approximately twelve million dollars.
The Office of Housing Administration (OHA) is responsible for planning, providing, and administering housing services and facilities for nearly 8,000 students. This includes the operation of residence halls and apartments, off-campus housing and conference housing. The OHA supports the educational mission of the Residential Education Office (REO) while providing the business operations for all housing-related functions in support of a quality environment to enhance the student's educational experience. The OHA staff consists of approximately 21 employees and generates annual revenues of nearly $78,000,000+.
Skilled Plumber– Under general supervision, the incumbent performs the full range of skilled plumbing work including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of mechanical plumbing equipment and fixtures for water, gas, oil, steam, sewage, fire sprinkler/prevention, and refrigeration-related plumbing systems, including automated plumbing systems. Work includes the installation of plumbing fixtures and piping in new construction and remodels projects and the maintenance and repair of existing plumbing fixtures and piping including restroom and laboratory fixtures, fire sprinkler systems, and associated piping. Incumbent repairs existing and install new appliances (water heaters, garbage disposals, kitchen ranges, drinking fountains, dishwashers, washing machines, forced air furnaces, etc.).
Objectives- Provide an "Industry Best Practice" preventive maintenance organization to the SDSU Community.
Expectations -Properly functioning equipment and a safe and clean working environment. Thorough and accurate accounting of time and materials. Completion of routine work assignments and performance of additional duties as assigned. Consistent meeting of university needs in a timely and professional manner with increasingly improved skill. Follow­ up on every project or task to ensure that all items are completed to the satisfaction of the FS Director. Maintains a responsible attendance record punctuality and consistent meeting of deadlines. Builds and maintains internal and external customer satisfaction with the products and services offered by the organization. Seeks customer feedback, is responsive to customers and takes appropriate action for the situation.
Perform work in a manner that supports and facilitates the work of others in Facilities Services and the university community. Maintains a positive and cooperative working relationship with members of the department and campus community by practicing individual dignity, using tack and diplomacy, and always being respectful and civil Respectful communication when dealing with people in all situations; demonstrating restraint, fairness and firmness. This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience
Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard plumber's apprenticeship program.
Licenses and Certifications Required
Valid California Driver’s License required.
Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification may be required.

Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience at SDSU or a similar higher education environment, or a large multi-building facilities environment.
LEED Green Associate.
APP A EFP Credential.

Specialized Skills

Ability to conduct hazard assessments, and address those hazards accordingly, and applies Engineering controls as appropriate to address/mitigate hazards; promptly follows-up on health.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,968 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,742 - $7,414 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
