CSUSM Athletics is a member of NCAA Division II and our Intercollegiate Athletics teams compete in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) conference. The CCAA is a highly competitive conference made up of twelve California State Universities.Job SummaryThe coaching assistant, who will have the working title of Sports Performance Coach, will oversee the strength and conditioning program for all Intercollegiate Athletics sports teams in addition to but not limited to sports psychology and nutrition education. The Sports Performance Coach will work in conjunction with the head coaches and the sports medicine team to organize, design and implement strength, power, speed, and agility programs for our sports teams. The Sports Performance Coach is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a successful NCAA Division II strength and conditioning program while supporting academic achievement and student-athlete welfare.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSA bachelor's degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or related fieldCertified through a nationally recognized strength and conditioning program such as Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or a collegiate strength and conditioning coaches association (CSCCA)Experience and demonstrated ability in the design and implementation of safe and effective strength programs for a variety of sportsKnowledge of NCAA compliance rules and regulationsNo NCAA major violationsStrong communication skillsAbility to maintain/obtain a California Driver's License and campus defensive driving certificationAbility to maintain/obtain CPR, First Aid and AED certificationPer the California State University's Out-of-State Employment Policy, the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California.
