Overview Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with The Johns Hopkins University. Jhpiego works with health experts, governments and community leaders to provide high-quality health care for their people. Jhpiego develops strategies to help countries care for themselves by training competent health care workers, strengthening health systems, and improving delivery of care.
The Cervical Cancer Prevention (CECAP) Technical Advisor, under the guidance of the Project Manager, direct the design, implementation, coordination, and monitoring and evaluation of the service delivery strategy for a new CECAP program in Guatemala in support of the Ministry of Health.
This position is contingent on funding.
Responsibilities
- Work with Project Manager to design, implement, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate the project’s service delivery strategy, with support and guidance of the Global Senior CECAP Technical Advisor
- Train health workers in HPV DNA screening, VAT, thermal ablation and LEEP
- Mentor laboratory technicians on CECAP related services and workflow
- Build a group of champions consisting of policy makers, health providers, teachers and principals to promote CECAP screening and treatment
- Liaise with other national CECAP programs and national technical working groups (TWG); represent the project as part of the TWG updating/strengthening the National Cancer Plan (2020-2024) and National Clinical Guidelines, if necessary.
- Work with the National Reproductive Health Program/ Cancer component and The National Program for HIV to adopt and implement the World Health Organization (WHO) updated recommendations and guidelines for CECAP.
- Liaise with National Programs (e.g., HIV, TB), other civil society organizations and donors to support the integration of HPV testing and thermal coagulation into service delivery packages, tools, training packages, and policies, if needed.
- Work closely with data analysts to monitor project progress and inform decision-making
- Coordinate closely with Awareness & Demand Generation Advisor and local partners to generate demand for HPV screening services.
- Contribute to donor reports and updates on a regular and ad hoc basis
- Identify, document, and discuss lessons learned, best practices, and project successes to improve service delivery.
Required Qualifications
- Medical doctor with advanced degree, preferably with 5 years of clinical experience in Obstetrics and Gynecology
- 8 years of progressively responsible experience in global public health or international development work
- Strong training skills and experience with adult facilitation techniques.
- Experience working in CECAP and conducting HPV screening with demonstrated understanding of new technologies including molecular testing with GeneXpert machines
- Experience in designing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating donor-funded health projects in Guatemala
- Experience using visual inspection with acetic acid (VIA) and Cryotherapy and familiarity with the single-visit approach
- Experience in the integration and implementation of family planning, reproductive health, HIV, and CECAP services
- Demonstrated understanding of the Guatemalan health system and Guatemala’s national-level policies, guidelines, and strategies, especially related to CECAP
- Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
- Demonstrated excellence in oral and written Spanish and English
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications
- Ability to travel nationally and internationally
- Willing to take on extra responsibilities in order to achieve the goals/objectives set by the organization
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience conducting trainings and building capacity for service providers preferred
