Position Summary
The School of Theatre, Television, and Film is an academic unit within the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts. It differs from other academic units in that it administers a professionally oriented curriculum that uniquely combines quality academic course work with an applied public laboratory production program. It operates and maintains two university theatres: the 500 seat Don Powell Theatre and the 175 seat Experimental Theatre, as well as television and film production studios and an extensive equipment inventory. Each year, the theatre production schedule includes 6-8 fully mounted plays in these two theatres, plus one or more community outreach productions that tour schools and other venues. In addition, there are numerous television and film productions and four annual public presentations of student film work. Productions combine elements from all three disciplines occur regularly. The facilities include laboratory environments for film and theatre students, including a television studio, editing suites, a sound stage for film production, a stage technology lab, a costume shop, equipment, and property check-out facilities, and more.
The Television, Film, and New Media (TFM) Student and Faculty Support Specialist (Equipment Technician II), specializing in electronic equipment, including television and film production equipment, serves as a resource to faculty, students, and staff within the TFM program. The Student and Faculty Support Specialist regularly interfaces and engages with students and faculty to perform the following functions within the TFM program within the School of Theatre, Television, and Film: 1. Work with faculty and staff to support studio and live TV/Film production classes, 2. Specialized equipment operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and safety oversight, and 3. Assist IT Consultant with IT support; and 4. Assist in the determination of new and replacement equipment and software purchases.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base) benefits-eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.

Education and Experience
Equivalent to two years of journey-level or skilled experience in the maintenance, repair, and operation of scientific or technical equipment in the specialty area to which assigned, such as mechanical, electromechanical, electronics or in the specialized category including construction and fabrication and some precision work or requiring trade or craft skills working with a variety of unique materials.
Equivalent to two years of semi-skilled experience maintaining and repairing scientific or technical equipment or related equipment experience in the type of equipment to which assigned as part of instructional support activities may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Equivalent to two years of trade school or technical arts training with specialization in the type of equipment repair to which assigned. completion of an apprenticeship program, or completion of a full military specialization in the required type of equipment maintenance and repair may be substituted for one year of the required experience

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in video production or related field and three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and related experience
Two years of experience troubleshooting, maintaining and performing basic repairs of media production and film equipment
Certified technology specialist (CTS) certification

Specialized Skills Required
One year of experience involving the operation of highly technical equipment in a live television and/or film production environmentAbility to manage and train student groups
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students
Ability to work independently and make good judgment decisions
Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the construction, installation, maintenance, and operation of studio facility and live TV productions
Ability to analyze studio and facilities problems and determine what corrective actions are needed
Ability to install, replace, operate, and maintain a wide variety of audio, film, and video equipment
Ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the position
Ability to competently make arithmetic computations
Ability to provide clear and concise instruction and advice on all equipment
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to communicate and work harmoniously with administrators, faculty, staff, and students

Compensation and Benefits
Starting part-time salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,584 per month. CSU Classification Part-time Salary Range: $3,907 - $6,779 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
